Manually update Critical Patches from any operating system.

  • Click on the Internet Explorer Web browser icon.
  • Click on Tools from the tool bar.
  • Click on Windows Update from the drop down menu.
  • Click on Product Updates from the web page and wait for your computer to see what updates it needs.
  • If there are any updates your PC needs, you will see a dark blue bar labeled "Critical Updates and Service Packs" with a check mark on a box to the side of the update.
  • Click on the large blue button labeled "Download".
  • Click "Start Download".
  • The license agreement will be displayed. Click on "Yes" to accept it.
  • There may be other critical or security updates that need to be installed after the initial install of critical updates. If so, click on the empty box to the left of the remaining updates. Repeat steps 6 through 8.
  • You are not required to install "Picks of the month" or "Recommended Updates", but you can do so if you wish by following the instructions.
  • When all updates are downloaded, click yes or OK to reboot the machine. Updates will not take effect until you reboot the machine.
